That fundamental membership requirement of personal worth and character has withstood the test of time, and its as relevant today as ever. Over the last 122 years, Tau Kappa Epsilon has faithfully lived its mission. Here at Wake Forest, we know our heritage is complex, and we have great respect for the complexity of our past. The current pandemic presents a challenge to the future of Tau Kappa Epsilon, conceivably in ways we have not seen since World War II. Consider the year 1962 sixty years ago. What inspired these men to our fraternal table? We don't know anything about you, your school, or its founder. Tau Kappa Epsilon needs your spirit indomitable. If we truly live our mission, if we light ourselves on fire with passion for what we value, if we truly exemplify personal worth and character in the tenor of our daily lives, we will continue to inspire men and leave a trail they will follow. What new goal can we achieve? o We have corporate partners such as Mitre, Northrop Grumman, and IBM that allow us to advance education and research in cybersecurity and with Medimmune which facilitates key work in biomedical research. When we look ahead we are also inspired in two essential ways. Our service and outreach efforts have benefitted numerous communities in desperate need of help. Our charitable giving has reached new heights; collegiate and alumni Tekes raised more than $300,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. With fewer than 1% of more than 240,000 living Fraters donating to the Fraternity, the promise of an equally inspiring moment in our Fraternitys history is great. Albin O. Let me give a few examples. It is the very fiber of the paper upon which we write our history. In FY 2016, UMBC secured $82.3 million in extramural awards, an increase of 12% above the prior year. If we look back to our Centennial Celebration, now twenty years ago, a multitude of corollaries and visions continue to ring true. The Pell Grant program, which today provides extensive need-based federal student aid, was created in the Higher Education Act Amendments of 1972 under Nixon. At the same time, the landmark 1954 Supreme Court case of Brown v Board of Education of Topeka and the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964again under Johnsonhelped ensure that the expansion of access could be inclusive, extending beyond just whites to African Americans and other minorities. And it means embodying our motto, Pro Humanitate. Hence the importance that each chapter take the greatest care in selecting men who are entirely in sympathy with the original high moral, social, and scholastic standing in which Tau Kappa Epsilon had its beginning. One year ago, no one could have anticipated that my tenure as Grand Prytanis would coincide with the challenges of a global pandemic. I was born the son of a car mechanic and a hairstylist.
